Toijala Farm was located in the parish of Messukylä, later in the municipality of Teisko and since 1972 in the city of Tampere. The location was apparently chosen on the shores of Lake Toijalanjärvi because, in the absence of roads, the lake offered the best transport connections, drinking water and fish food.
Toijalan Tila has been inhabited since at least 1540. The resident at that time was named Perttu Toijanen. However, the house remained deserted until the blacksmith Jaakko Toijala settled here in 1620. Since then, the farm has been passed on to the son of the same family, so the surname Toijala has been preserved. Over the centuries, the family's children have been separated from the house, including the Haikka, Uusi-Toijala and Vuorela farms. Since then, the fields of the adjacent Uusi-Pouka and Kääniemi Läpikäytävä farms have been acquired for the farm. Agricultural production and forestry have been practiced on the farm. In the past, the farm had all the usual animals, but due to the restructuring of agriculture, cows were abandoned in 1966 and pigs in 1980. Currently, there are just over 40 ha of fields and 80 ha of forests.
Technology arrived at the Toijala farm at a relatively early stage. The telephone was received in Toijala around 1905 and electricity in 1924. The first tractor was purchased in 1950 and the combine harvester in 1960. The first car was a Ford Pilot in the early 1950s. The television was purchased in 1960. Internet access was obtained in the mid-1990s and the latest renovation was the laying of fiber optic cables in 2022.
The first steps in rural tourism were taken when one of the Teisko inns operated on the farm in the 19th century. Today, we can offer tourists a peaceful rural holiday in our six rental cottages.
